    Garnheath — History & notes

Garnheath was established in 1964 by Publicker, the American parent company of Inver House, within the Moffat complex in Airdrie. The site, a converted former paper mill, began production in 1965. Operating alongside the malt distilleries Glen Flagler and Killyloch, Garnheath utilized five massive continuous stills to produce grain whisky and neutral spirit. The facility was part of a large-scale industrial hub that included the Wanderhaufen maltings, which opened in 1968. This ambitious Lowland site served as a central pillar for Inver House's global blending and bottling operations during the late twentieth century.

The production at Garnheath ceased in 1986, and the plant was subsequently dismantled. While the distillation equipment is gone, the site remains operational for Inver House, housing warehouses, offices, and blending facilities. Garnheath's output was primarily intended for the company's internal blending needs, most notably for the Inver House Rare brand. Because the distillery was designed for industrial volume rather than single grain marketing, official releases do not exist. It is essential to distinguish Garnheath grain spirit from the malt whiskies produced at the same complex, as they represent entirely different distillation methods and categories.

    Flavour profile

The specific flavor profile of Garnheath cannot be reliably reconstructed as there are no verified tasting notes from official releases and independent bottles lack precise flavor data. Historically, it served as a blending component for Lowland grain character.

    Bottlings & collector track record

    • Inver House Rare Blended Whisky: A primary destination for Garnheath grain production, though the liquid is integrated with multiple other components.
    • Independent Grain Bottlings: While some independent sources have acquired Garnheath spirit, there are no specific identified bottles with verified records provided in research notes.
