Ben Wyvis — History & notes
Ben Wyvis operated between 1965 and 1976 as a dedicated single malt plant situated inside the Invergordon grain distillery complex in Ross-shire. Established by Invergordon Distillers for Whyte & Mackay, this short-lived operation should not be confused with the historic Dingwall distillery or the modern GlenWyvis site. The facility utilized six cast iron washbacks and two pot stills, each with a 10000-liter capacity. Following its closure in 1976, the site was demolished, and the pot stills were eventually relocated to the Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown.
The production spanned eleven years, focusing on unpeated malt intended for blending by Whyte & Mackay. Authenticated bottlings are extremely scarce, with the 1972 'Final Resurrection' and specific Signatory vintage releases serving as the primary record of its output. While the distillery did not reopen on site, its legacy continues through its stills, which were transferred to Campbeltown to facilitate the restoration of the Glengyle distillery.
