Life & career
Nick Savage trained as an engineer and entered whisky in 2007 with Diageo, working across production sites before moving to The Macallan, where he was appointed master distiller in 2016 — the youngest person to hold the post. He oversaw the spirit during the opening of The Macallan's new distillery, one of the largest single-malt building projects of the century.
In 2019 he joined Bladnoch, a Lowland distillery founded in 1817 that had been silent for years before being bought and restarted by an Australian owner. Savage's job was to define what a modern Bladnoch should taste like: unpeated, precise, driven by fermentation time and cask quality rather than by heritage claims.
