Життя та кар'єра
David Stewart joined William Grant & Sons in 1962 as a young trainee and spent his first years nosing thousands of samples for the blending team. He was appointed malt master in 1974, making him responsible for the character of The Balvenie and for stocks across the company's distilleries.
In the early 1980s he began moving mature whisky from traditional oak into European sherry casks for a second, shorter maturation. The result was released in 1993 as The Balvenie DoubleWood 12 Year Old and became the template for the finishing and double-maturation bottlings that now fill every whisky shelf in the world.
